Fire Fighter 43

I invited Tim (Illdigger) and Ted up for a hunt at the infamous picnic grove on Thursday. As usual the grove did not disapoint. I was running late because of work but manage to get hunting by 0930. After some quick hellos we got into a short conversation about coins I have not found on this site. The four that came to mind were a three center , half dime, two center and anything gold. After talking we all went out seperate ways in search of silver. I was using my newest toy for the CTX the 17 coil. I had a combined program loaded with a wide open screen and manual setting set at 27. I wasn't messing around I was after the deep stuff in an area I had found the oldest coins in the grove. I had dug about four deep brass grommets so I new I was on the right track. I finally got a nice 12-36 at 5-6 inches and was thinking Indian. To my surprise it was a 2 center and my first in 36 years of hunting. It ended up being an 1864. It is too worn to determine if it is the small or large motto variety. Needless to say it made my day and my season. They may be common in some areas of the country but believe me they are rare in my area. I also found a 46-D Washington to get me to 86 slivers tying my best silver year. The totals for the day between all three of use was 8 slivers.
Day two was Friday I was on a mission to get to 87 silvers for the year and it happened within the first 10 minutes. At 6 inches I got a 1918 Merc. That was it for silvers but I came across a small deposit of Float (native copper) at the top of a hill. I also found two more Native American Old copper culture artifacts. See my post in the relic section.
