Some of my research this year has finally led me to a place where I hope to find the location of an 1830's home site. Nothing big for you guys out east, but for Wisconsin this would be great to find. Well here are the results of the first couple of hours, little to no glass or pottery so I don't think I am in the right spot, but I keep trying. A small musket ball was the find of the day. The owner also said his grandfather lost his ring in the fields years ago, so that would be something if I found that, we'll see how many more time I get out there before the freeze!

With what you have found so far it looks like you are in the area. Definate people activity there. Hope you can keep hunting before that nasty weather arrives.
hey Darren , is this homesite located in a large field ?? or out in some woods ??

Hi Milco,
I was looking at your map and the 640 acre sections should be your reference points. If I were you I'd create an overlay, either with software or a physical one, to the same scale as a modern map, with a printer and line up the sections with a modern plat map. That should get you pretty close. I've hunted quite a few early settlers houses in Iowa and I think from your finds, you're in the area.
