Met up with Silver Star(Mike) for our weekly Sunday morning hunt.We were supposed
to meet up at a different park but I didnt know the directions so we met at a park we both knew how to get to.Turns out they are demolishing the old school and took
off 6 inches of top soil in between two baseball fields.Since we had hunted this spot
previously we knew that it had great potential. We both started detecting in front
of a huge dirt pile and my first target was a 1901 no mint mark Barber quarter, my first ever.(shortly after Mike got a nice silver washington).Digging conditions varied
due to the heavy equiptment packing the soil in some areas making it hard like concrete and other areas nice and loose.Next up was a nice greyish colored 1917 mercury dime. Then another 1944 mercury. After that was a 1947 Jamaican Penny in rough shape.(Mike thought it was Canadian).Found a good luck allenite shoe tip token which was a nice surprise.Moved to another area at the edge of the field and got a nice quarter signal, a silver ring.Right away I knew it was different and thought coin ring because of the center span in the middle.Mike thought it was a fraternity ring.Found the exact same ring on ebay and I was correct. It's a 1918 coin ring made from a French 25 cmes coin or token. It reads, liberte égalité fraternité 1918.The writing on the inside is hard to see so I may make a video in the future so you can see it better..Total wheats for the day was 33, my all time record for one day.The gold
looking ring is junk copper plated and was found just lying on top of the ground....I have a few more relics to clean and photo and will add later...Im at 47 silver for the year and just a few short of my goal of 50....
One good lesson I did learn from this hunt was that indeed no spot is ever hunted out, the coins may be too deep or out of range for any given detector, the soil may be too dry, the good stuff might be masked by garbage and iron but they are there.I knew this before BUT todays hunt really re-inforced that , never give up and you will be rewarded. Thanks for looking.HH
