17th Hunt in Connecticut - Century, 7 Silver, Sterling Cross, and 18 Wheaties!

Hello Fellow MD'ers...

After all the rain and flooding this week I got out today to wet grounds to start the day... it was high 50's low 60's... with the sun shinning, blue skies and no wind... Nice nice day for detecting...

I hit a new location and the clad and wheaties were flowing right away... 10 minutes in I got a loud quarter on the surface signal... but it ended up being sterling...

wasn't much further into the hunt when I got a nice solid quarter signal @ 6 range... and ground under the grass is mud! It stucking to everything... I was wet from my knees to my toes... but the warm sun felt good... out it popped!

1939 Washington... This one saw a few years of circulation...

I got to a dryer corner and popped the plug in a nice 12/45 signal...

I like it when you flip out the plug and you can see shiny :-)

Next came the 1947 Roosie...

I had a 12/45 signal @ 3 and I really was expecting a shallow memorial... but I flipped out the plug and got the probe in the hole and the target was deeper... so I took out some dirt and I could see a silver rim... it it was larger that a dime... and I knew immediately then that there was more than one target in the hold... I got out the quarter and the probe was still sounding off :-)

1944 Washington (No 'D' :-( ) and a very work 1917 Mercury...

That Roosie put me @ 39 for the year... that was the total number of silver I had dug for last year... I had to get one more!

Very impressive hunt! Congratulations on a nice bunch of Silver. This Catholic medal is known as a Five Way Medal. The Dove in the center of the Cross makes the fifth symbol. Very Nice.

George... It sure was nice to see all the silver... I was out in the woods last week trying to get some more time hunting older stuff... the the rains kept me working and indoors this week... so it was nice to get out and et the shiny :-) Thank you...

Ok, I got energetic and actually opened Breen's book to see if it was listed lol. It's not, but that is not really a bad thing since Breen's is an old book. It may be a double die (meaning it moved while being struck again), but it really looks like a repunched die. When the date area (or other areas that are worn or mashed from production), become blunted, but the die is still good, it will be retooled to correct the flaws. The date was reingraved but the old date was not removed effectively. So when it goes under the many tons of pressure, the lower (old) date shows also. This is what it looks like to me. If it is , I think the would call it a 1962/1962 (overdate) Roosevelt dime. I would send in a picture to PCGS or any other major grading company. If you can't send a pic, you can describe it to them and then they will probably ask you to send a pic. They always want to see these kind of things. My heart says it looks so good, but my mind says that someone would have found one before you did. lol That coin has been around for a long time. You would not believe the trivial things they find and report as errors these days. This would be an obvious one lol Good luck and I hope it is.
