Halifax to Heathrow was a mere three movies long. Flight was smooth and I was surprised at the level of-in flight service provided by Air Canada.

Landing in Heathrow was like rush hour traffic at our old Micmac Rotary. Planes to the right of me, planes to the left of me, planes landing about every 40 seconds! man I would hate to be an air traffic controller at that airport........fast track to burn out me son!

A first for this bouy as I did a subway or as the Kippers call it the tube. Crowded and noted that no man gave up his seat for any of the ladies. This bouy was in a corner of the thing holding on for dear life as the darn thing rocketed through the blackness. Changed to the railway at King's Crossing I think it was called and enjoyed the view as the sun came up and the landscape dashed by.

Made it to Nottingham without being robbed by Robin of the Hood were Special K (aka Jim K) greeted me and we were off.

Settling in we chewed the fat as a few cans of Guinness mysteriously disappeared followed in the morning by a traditional English breakfast which was minus the sausage and blood dewy for this colonial.

From downtown Lincoln it was off to the country side to swing. Gimped along and pulled out a lot of junk with the AT Pro. Deep junk then this coin which turned out to be my best of the trip!

The one on the left so I'm told is a Henry V1 circa 1422 which was found on a rally and the Henry V111 circa 1509.

Weather was not cooperating with a lot of rain the next few days. Jim acted once again as a guide taking me downtown to the local stamp dealer. This trip made the wallet lighter and the UK Stamp Album much fuller. No Tim's. The coffee in the UK is a sort of creamy lat tie mixture. The canal was full of these gliding beauties.

On the ecclesiastical side this church was magnificent.

Friday was already upon us meaning that the big rally sponsored by the Weekend Wanders was on. Lord love a duck there must have been a hundred cars ahead of us. Obviously they were expecting folks from all over for this event.

As we registered (50 pounds for the three day event which comes to about $78 Canuck) we were under watch of some characters.

The rally was about to begin.

And they were off!

Meandered through the swarm of detectorists till I limped up a slope and for the next few hours dug buttons, bullets and an odd coin. Took the local taxi back to the chow tent and dealers. Man was that a bumpy ride on the back of the tractor wagon. Beat the halibut of walking back with my bad knees.

In the beer tent Special k was talking up a storm with the bouys!

A long day was over with 2 to go. back to the humble hotel for some cleaning up, grub and Guinness.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v518/leslie19/UK%202012/P9190020.jpg
Must say the accommodations were great but Special k and I , too tired to go out ate at the inn ordering fish and chips....safe in most eat ting establishments. Lord love a duck when it came it looked like a salad for a rabbit and the fish turned out to be fried salmon. Indeed time for another Guinness.

Saturday was much the same as the previous day for finds with a nice morning stop at the Golden Arch.

Great day for socializing as I got to meet and swap stories with a slew of fellow detectorists even if the bouys butchered the Queen's English!

Sunday we got half a day in and the heavens opened up. Soaked to the bone Special K and I called it a day at noon and headed back to his abode.

House bound for a tad and when we did get out it was still under a darkened sky. Talked Jim into a beach hunt and the bouy looked like a fish out of water. Getting out is getting out no matter what one may find as this colonial is happy with anything from coppers, to dinkies and gold rings! Pleasant day as the rain held off.

Next outing it was equally as bleak with Special K and I racking up a few coins and buttons.

Another day and another rally which would be my last kick at the cat.
As was per normal it was cold, windy with rain threatening at any moment. Danny had set aside 3 fields for each of the two days. Hour out and a first for this detectorist as a jeton jumped under the AT Pro's coil followed by a few buttons. On the way back to the tent for a scoff of food hit the Henry Vl hammered. (shown above). Of course found Jim at the tent putting on the fed bag and being social.

Day two we left and took a slow cruise home.

Last day and we were not able to get out. Took a few photos of some of Jim's recent finds.

Thanks to my host Special K for once again putting up with me. When he let me off for the rail he indicated that he will see me in a bout 8 months.......................had I finally talked him into coming across the big pond?

Congrats on your old finds and for going over to the rally. :congrats: I know several members of the Detecting Scotland Forum that also went to this rally. That's one thing, you sure do find some real old goodies over there. I went to Scotland this past May and took my ATPro with me. WOW, what an adventure, and can't wait to go back. Congrats again to ya... thumbsup01

Highly entertaining post and amazing finds, Les! I am so jealous! :envious:

That is a dream of most detectorists here in North America, to be able to hunt in the old country.

Love the hammered silver coins! :smitten:
